I realize this requires a little explanation...
In South Korea on Valentine's Day girls typically give gifts to their significant others. A month later on March 14th is White Day and that's when the men give gifts in return. April 14th is known as Black Day and it's the day when all the single people who weren't able to give or receive gifts on either Valentine's Day or White Day get together and sulk (or celebrate their singlehood). It's called Black Day because typically you eat jjajangmyeon, a Koreanized version of a Chinese dish of wheat noodles covered in black soybean paste. It usually includes diced meat and vegetables.
So I couldn't help myself from taking a stroll down to K-Town here in NYC today to take part in this culturally deep tradition.
Who am I kidding? I'll take any excuse to visit K-Town and eat Korean food.

Happy Black Day to all my single friends!
